This is a great up-cycling and repurposing project! Don’t you just hate it when the base foot of a glass stemmed vase gets knocked and breaks? This happens to me all the time. You go to place the glass or crystal vase on a surface and it connects with the edge and just like that - crack, chip or broken. Very frustrating and annoying. I am a ‘waste not want not’ girl and can’t stand to see something that can be repurposed discarded. If you have a favourite vase or two lying around, then let me share how you can transform and give that footless vase a new lease on life!
Depending on the stem damage, if it’s cracked in half or is missing a half, you might need to knock away the other side. The vase I’m demonstrating today, came away cleanly. If necessary, you might need to attack dangerous rough areas with sandpaper, but please take care and wear safety glasses.
For my base, I used two pieces of wood. The base is 6”x6” & the depth 2”.
The second layer is 4”x4” with a depth of 3”. Any size works but I found this
measurement a better visual balance.
Liquid No-Nails or similar strong bonding glue
Paint in a colour to suit. You can either paint the block base before gluing or wait until it is set.
Once glued leave a good 24 hours to fully cure and set.
Happy up-cycling and repurposing!
