The thing about spring flowers is that unless you have an extra-large garden and access to zillions of spring bulbs, it can be hard to achieve something eye catching and with impact. Those dear little flowers don’t all come out at the same time, and then if you are purchasing them, you will probably only get a maximum of 10/12 stems per bunch.
To make work even harder, often the stems are soft and this can make inserting into foam difficult or, the stems are just too short. I think that Mother Nature did that on purpose to stop using them. As a general rule of thumb, spring flowers on bulb will last much much longer if left on their food source – it’s bulb. And while on the subject, I might as well add that spring flowers don’t last that long once picked and brought in side. Mother Nature was probably right – leave them where they are and enjoy from a distance. However, for those of us who love them, it really is hard to resist picking and bring them inside to enjoy. If you are like me, this past winter just went on and on, so to see the flowers – I can’t help myself!
You will need:
- A wooden crate or box in a size desired.
- Find about 8 little bottles or glass jam jars and place with water down inside box. The number necessary will be dependent on the size and depth of the box being used.
Now simply place flowers to suit. If the flowers have small heads cluster several together before placing into each jar/bottle.
Do allow room so that each flower or cluster can be visually enjoyed without overcrowding.
Enjoy the first that spring offers!
