I have always loved these vases. The blue is the perfect tone to really enhance any flowers. The blue reminds me of a late summer afternoon sky and I just want to share that I think the great creator worked magic with this colour. Never have I seen a flower or foliage not enhanced by a blue sky.
The issues I have with a lot of the vases is that they are never big enough to hold sufficient flowers & I also need to add hard to find or excessively expensive.
History is a grand thing, and because we have embarked on this journey of flowers of the past, I feel it only right that a leap back in history, to investigate the early beginnings of anything, is important to keeping crafts/era’s alive.

Things to gather:
- You will need a vessel in a size and shape to suit
- Paint brushes
- The blue paint – I liken it to sky blue or forget-me-not blue
- White paint
Tip – for a one-off vase, just buy a test pot of paint and mix in a bit of plaster of Paris. My cheats chalk paint recipe is:
- ¼ cup of plaster of Paris mixed well with ¼ cup water & then add to a cup of flat matte acrylic paint.
Method – if painting onto glass my current trick is to do a very watery first coat. Allow to dry over night and then follow this up with 2 really good coats.
For the finishing touches you will need raised embellishments or decorative mouldings - as seen on the exterior of the Jasperware vases. Many different designers worked on these over the years and designs and styles are varied.
The ones I used are available on Amazon or from www.efex.co.nz You could either use plaster casted embellishments or bendable latex mouldings. I found the latex much easier to work with.
To glue and fix I found that F2 contact adhesive to be the best.
