I rediscovered this recipe I’ve had for years and just thought for those of you with small children this could be a great fun project to do together. The other reason I wanted to share is that I have a wedding I am planning with a friend and she wanted chalks to colour tone with her flowers and we couldn’t find any – thus the reason for making and colouring to suit. My friend wants black board table mats and hopes her friends and family provide memento chalked moments of her day. I love that for an idea!
You will need to gather:
- Mixing tubs/jars
- Water – COLD works best
- Plaster of Paris
- Acrylic paint or poster paints in colours to suit
- Silicone moulds
- Mixing sticks
Method:
- Mix consists of equal amounts of water and plaster of Paris mixed together well then about 1 tbsp of paint to each ½ cup.
- Pour water into mixing bowl, and add sufficient paint to achieve desired colour. So, if you were using ½ cup water, add 1 tbsp of paint, mix well to blend.
THEN
Add ½ cup of Plaster of Paris into water and stir until smooth. Sometimes it might look like it is still separated but that’s ok.
Pour into a mould and wait until set. The chalk should set within a few hours, but it can take a few days to fully harden and dry depending on temperature.
Once hard and set, pop out of moulds and put somewhere to harden before using.
