I love that with the flick of a brush a surface can be transformed, and although some might shy away from a rusted surface, especially a container to host beautiful flowers, visually the effect can create the most amazing contrast, which actually enhances the completed design. The process is super easy and can be applied to almost any surface.
Things to gather:
- Porter’s liquid Iron
- Porters Rust
- Undercoat
- Paint brushes
- Water – wash up
- Gloves and safety glass
Full instructions for application can be found www.porterspaints.com
Basically all you need to do is:

Apply 2 good coats of liquid Iron.
Allow drying between coats.
Apply liquid rust and allow rust to come through.
Seal to protect work.
