How to make artificial Kōwhai flowers – from New Zealand!

Channels / Arts and Crafts Tutorials

I wanted to create a permanent a floral design for the many Kiwis’ living aboard. There was no bother finding Pōhutukawa,, Manuka and of course ferns, but there was not one flower that even resembled Kōwhai, so I decided it was time someone did.

It's very easy, but you do need to go hunting for:
- Artificial Cosmos, the colour of this flower is perfect as are the petal shapes.
- Long stamens with golden pollen looking tips.
- Brown air dry paper clay which will be used to make the top capping buds or crowns.
- Twisty willow branch or similar.
- Hot glue gun and sticks.
