Limelight & Spicy Khan Orchids! My 'Citrus Burst' Floral Design

As the journey continues it’s so refreshing to finally have access to fresh cymbidium orchids that you too can acquire in your part of the world. The journey to Ruby Orchids was a treat and a half. I’ve never seen such magnificent blooms and on such mass. I really do have a greater understanding and appreciation of what’s involved.

This design is so easy. When I was looking at the orchids and putting names to each bloom it got me thinking about all things citrus especially freshly squeezed lime mixed in with a bit of spice. Often people ask how or where I get my inspiration from and to that I say, it’s either in the name or when you look at the flower/foliage nature provides the sign posts. The lime green of the orchid just looks like limes and as for Spicy Khan, it really does have hints of exotic spice colourings!

Things to gather –
- 2 stems of Spicy Khan Cymbidium Orchids
- 2 or 3 stems of Limelight’s Cymbidium Orchids.
- Either flax or cymbidium foliage
- 2 pieces of hanging amaranthus to blend in with the orchids.
- I used a citrus inspired decoupaged vase. See video tutorial on just how easy it is to turn a glass vase into something with a bit more visual interest with a lick of paint and a decoupage servettes: https://youtu.be/UXWEAEOqGFE
- If you don’t have fresh lemons/limes, see video tutorial on how to create your own. I used 5 stems.

A special note of thanks to both New Zealand Blooms and Ruby Orchids NZ for giving up your valuable time, at such a busy time of the year, to share what’s involved in growing the orchids we so love to create with. Ruby Orchids are available exclusively through New Zealand Bloom.
