Often, I am asked if it’s ok to create a floral design using mixed seasonal flowers? To this I want to say, if you can find mixed season flowers, just do whatever you desire. The great thing about permanent botanicals is never ever having to go without.
If you love delicious yellow spring forsythia and you want to put it with bright red summer roses, the only issue and this is super important, is in defusing these primary colours with shades tones and tints in the same colour palette. I find that the best way of achieving this is through the choice of vase/container. In previous tutorials I’ve shared the ‘art of decoupage’ and how easy it is to create and theme the exterior to suit any floral display. This niffy art comes in very handy for today’s design in which not one, but all three primary colours are being combined along with white daisies and lavender.
Tips and tricks –
The vase being used started life as glass which I painted with 3 good coats of white chalk paint.
The decoupage printed napkins selected had red roses, yellow daisies and bluish granny bonnet flowers + trusty harmonising green leaves. All three primary colours or shades or tints of the three.
As indicated the flowers being displayed are full on deepish red roses, bright yellow forsythia, white daisies, lavender and hanging amaranthus and green ivy.
This is how easy it is to blend and connect all these colours!
The white of the vase carries through to the daisies. The yellow centres of the daisies connect through to the yellow forsythia, but also come back down into the yellow flowers on the vase.
The red roses displayed are shades tones and tints of the red flowers in the vase, and the hanging amaranthus is another tonal red. Incorporate some green ivy and everything becomes balance.
Things to gather:
- The vase – paint finished to suit.
- Decoupage paper or printed napkins in colourways to suit.
- Ivy
- 2 x Hanging amaranthus
- 6 x red roses
- 6 x forsythia
- 4 x daisies
- 2 x lavender
