Vintage Flowers of the Past: a Hydrangea and Rose floral design

Channels / Flowers of the Past

I’ve called this tutorial ‘vintage’, mainly because of the vase. In times gone past, the emphasis of the flower arrangement wasn’t so much the flowers, but more the vase. Wonderful ornate heavily embossed or embellished vases held state of place to display or not the simplest of flowers. These days the vases are often hard to find or that rare and expensive they hide behind locked doors.

However, for us lovers of flowers, wanting just one or two beautiful reminders of past times, this might be the easiest way of achieving something to replica vintage antiques!

Things to gather:
- In my quest to find the ‘right’ looking vase, the only shape I could find were bright glossy gold urns. The gold leaf was usually applied at the end of the design process, but I thought why not start with the gold and embellish up.
- Décor Transfer sheets to suit along with water transfer sheets.
- I managed to track down a few vintage porcelain floral earrings and brooch sets. Check out Amazon or eBay + glue to fix.

Design tip – if the vase is super shiny and slippery, just use fine sandpaper and a bit of water to rough up the surface slightly. This makes transferring much easier.

The flowers – you will need :
3 x white hydrangea
3 x pink hydrangea
2 x large lavender vintage roses
1 x lavender rose buds
2 x white spray roses.
