I think that flowers should be renamed to ‘memory keepers’. I don’t know one person who doesn’t have some kind of emotional feeling be it good or bad for flowers/foliage. The botanical world really is a special place.

When we were doing our behinds the scenes story for the Great Botanical Journey, as I walked down the rows and rows of amazing cymbidium orchids at Ruby Orchids NZ, my eyes fell upon the above named orchids and I was immediately taken back 40+ years to the day I was married. That might have ended in tears, but the sight of the orchids and time have certainly dried the tears and mended my broken heart.

My memories of the flower, the colour of the flower, the fragrance of the flower are now viewed through time travelled eyes, so all was happy to finally see the flower after such a long time. I felt that it was only fitting to create A MEMORY KEEPER JUST FOR ME, + if you have a tulip vase and were wondering what to display in it, then you might just love a few classically beauty white cymbidium orchids.

I must just extend a big note of thanks to Ruby Orchids and Caroline for her time in helping to solve a few mysteries I’ve had for years – Where do our flowers come from and how are they grown and what’s involved? If I don’t have flowers I desire in my garden or I need many, then it’s just a matter of wondering off to the market and there I can pretty much acquire whatever I need. Once again, a big thank you to Ruby Orchids NZ & New Zealand Blooms for the opportunity of going behind the scenes to experience the close-up beauty of the most magnificent orchids. If only thing I have a greater appreciation of the time and work involved in growing these so that we floral designers have what our artistic minds desire. Ruby Orchids are available exclusively through New Zealand Bloom.
